Music

Primary newsletter

It has been a very busy term and it is great to see so many new students come to our school. I see a lot of great talent in my music room. Some students have an incredible ability to act, some are amazing singers and some are extremely creative.

I would like to remind parents and caregivers that our school offers music club for all primary on Thursdays 1st half of lunch.

Music club is basically an open room for students to play the instruments there is no obligation for the students who attend music club to perform; it is “free time” with the instruments. Music club has been particularly successful for the primary students. The choice of instruments range from small percussion instruments, electronic keyboards, drums. We also offer guitars for students from grade three upwards. I do roam the class and offer support if the students need otherwise the students are welcome to explore the instruments on their own. Many students from previous years have been shown how to compose music and I see many students including prep aged students enjoy creating their own music. Some students prefer to read music and play it. What I do love to see is when a student teachers another student not only is it helpful but teaching others is also a very high order of thinking.

I also would like to say that if any parents are thinking of buying an instrument or considering an instrument to have a talk with me at a mutually suitable time? I am only available from Wednesdays to Fridays.

The music we play in primary classes is from all around the world. I try to help students familiarise themselves with classical and traditional music for many cultures. We also hear a lot of contemporary music however the lyrics (words) must be appropriate for all students so in other words, we hear many genres of music but none inappropriate lyrics we also do not see inappropriate video clips. We also play many drama games that many of the students look forward to. I love hearing the laughter and seeing the smiles in my classes,

Mr Webb (music teacher).
